  • Green Buildings – Pikes Peak Ballrooms 1-4: “What Do Greener Buildings Look Like and How to Get There: Efficiency, Upgrades, Renewable Energy and More.” General overview with local examples and local support. Presenters include: National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Department of Energy, Nolte Engineering, U.S. Green Building Council, Home Builders Association, the American Institute of Architects, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and others.
  • Sustainable Food System Challenges – Foothills Ballroom: “Examining Food Systems and Security: Explaining the Environmental, Economic and Equity Problems Present in Our Industrial Food Production, Distribution and Consumption.” Learn about conditions current food production methods have created for the environment, rural America, our economies and our health. Presenters include: local and regional producers, coordinators, educators and activists of sustainable agriculture, food production, consumption, preparation and education. Colorado communities represented include Pueblo, Woodland Park, Colorado Springs and Boone.
  • Military Sustainability – Centennial Ballroom: “The Leading Edge of Federal and Military Sustainability Implementation.” This session will include representation from: the White House Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, Fort Carson Garrison Commander, the Army Environmental Policy Institute and Sabot6 Inc.

  • Sustainable Energy – Foothills Ballroom: An overview of energy and water efficiency and renewable energy technology, with local examples and supporting organizations. Examples of renewable energy include photovoltaics, solar thermal, geo-thermal and wind. Local examples include: Colorado Springs Independent, Old Town Bike Shop, School Districts D-11 and D-38 geothermal initiatives and others. Presenters include: the Colorado Renewable Energy Society or National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Fort Carson and Colorado Springs Utilities.
  • Sustainable Businesses/Economic Development - Pikes Peak Ballrooms 1-4: "The Competitive Advantage of a Sustainable Business." Co-hosted by: Catamount Institute, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation, City of Fountain Economic Development Council, CORE Colorado. Topics to be discussed include "Why Sustainable Businesses are more Competitive for the United States and Colorado Contracts" and "Competitive Advantages of Sustainable Businesses." Organizations represented in this track include: the White House Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, State of Colorado Green Procurement Program, the U.S. General Services Administration; State of Colorado Governor's Energy Office; State of Colorado Purchasing; and Fort Carson.
  • Military Sustainability – Centennial Ballroom: "Best Practices for Development in the Fountain Creek Watershed." Presenters for this session include: Fort Carson, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, Colorado Water Wise Council, Peterson Air Force Base and Nolte Inc.

3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Concurrent Sessions

  • Zero Waste – Pikes Peak Ballrooms 1-4: "Creating a Sustainable Resource Recovery Program". The session will explore how recycling fits in sustainable communities and what needs to be done to create a sustainable recycling (resource recovery) program. Facilitated by Colorado Association for Recycling, additional organizations to present include: Green Cities Coalition Recycling Working Group and Southeast and East Central Recycling.
  • Sustainable Food System Solutions and Networks – Foothills Ballroom: “Exploring Alternative Food Production, Consumption and Distribution Options”. Be educated, inspired and engaged into eating better through choosing local food outlets, options, production and incorporating these local food systems into your lives, businesses and bodies. We will have sections or ‘pods’ in the room where you can assemble and traverse to hear and experience each subject matter expert discuss respective regional solutions. This is a hands-on event to show you what local, sustainable produce or production looks like. Presenters include: local food networks, community supported agriculture providers, Peak to Plains Alliance, Slow Food USA, Pikes Peak Urban Gardens, Colorado Farm and Art Market, Bon Appetit and LiveWell Fountain.
  • Military Sustainability – Centennial Ballroom: “The DoD’s Journey to Sustainable Procurement.” Organizations presenting include: the Military Affairs Division, Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce; Office of the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense (Installations and Environment); the U.S. General Services Administration; and Fort Carson.

  • Transportation - Pikes Peak Ballrooms 1-4: “Low-impact Vehicles and Sustainable Fuels.” Co-Hosted by Colorado Mobility Coalition and Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, this session will begin with an overview of sustainable transportation in the Pikes Peak Region. Following will be presentations that illustrate plans for sustainable mobility through means of low-impact vehicles and sustainable vehicle fuels. Organizations represented include: Colorado Mobility Coalition, Fort Carson, Boulder ElectroRide, Veloteq Corporation, Rocky Mountain Segway, PRT Consulting Inc., the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, State of Colorado Governor’s Energy Office, Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises and LiquidMaize.
  • Sustainability in Academia – Foothills Ballroom: “Educating Tomorrow’s Leaders.” The session will feature a panel discussion, student-produced video and an ecological footprint exercise. Presenters include: the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Colorado College, Pikes Peak Community College, the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado State University and School District 11.
  • Military Sustainability – Centennial Ballroom: “Investing in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Projects” Topics include “Energy Efficiency Investments”, with representatives from Johnson Controls Inc., Weston Solutions Inc., Colorado Springs Utilities and “Renewable Energy Investments” with representatives from Fort Carson, Juwi Solar, Sun Edison Inc. and Colorado Springs Utilities.
